1. Rules

Piteå Summer Games is played according to FIFA rules, as well as the Swedish Football Association's competition regulations, where applicable. The listed home team takes the first kick-off.

2.  Competition Format

2.1 Participating Teams  

Participating teams must belong to a football club or an academy who is registered in their countries FIFA-affiliated association. In countries where football is operated by the schools, we also allow teams affiliated by their school football association. All players must belong to the football club or academy they participate for, according to their national federations’ rules. It is not permitted to loan players from another club unless the clubs district approved this in specific decisions that must be sent in.

Combined team is only approved if the team participates in their districts league, or whether the application is supported by their own district. The application for combined teams is made as a dispensation application to the tournament organization and must be supplemented with a written certificate.

2.2 Participant Wristbands  

All players must wear participant wristbands to play matches, gain access to any accommodation, and eat in the dining halls. Checks may occur throughout the tournament. Players without wristbands may be deemed ineligible, with consequences as stated in section 7.

2.3 Supporters

Each team is responsible for the behavior of its own supporters. The supporters' behavior can lead to the team being excluded from the tournament. 

2.4  Tournament Structure

The tournament is played in a group format where the best teams from each group advance to a knockout stage. We guarantee at least four matches for all teams.

The ranking of teams in the group stage is determined by points. A win earns 3 points, and a draw earns 1 point.

If two or more teams have the same number of points, the ranking is determined as follows:
(1) Goal difference
(2) Most goals scored
(3) Results of the game between teams with equal points (Head-to-head)
(4) Drawing lots

Teams that don’t advance to the playoffs will be playing 1 or more friendly games on Sunday.

2.5 Play offs/Knockout Stage

The best teams from each group advance to the play offs. In the event of a draw in the play off game, the winner is determined by penalty kicks according to FIFA rules (5 penalties each, then sudden death). Eliminated teams during Saturday's knockout play a friendly match on Sunday. Friendly games may end in a draw.

Classes B/G 8-10, as well as B/G 11 Friendly and B/G 12 Friendly do not play play-off rounds according to SvFF's rules for these age classes. No tables or results are displayed. All teams are guaranteed at least four games.

5. Number of Players and Substitutes 

In all age classes, a free number of substitutes may be used. Substituted players must be listed on the team's line-up ( digitally). Players may only participate in one (1) team in the same age class.  Substitutes may re-enter the game unlimited number of times. Substituted player must leave the field within the technical area before new player may enter.

Please note that substituting the goalkeeper must be done when the game is paused, and the referee has been notified..

Both teams must sit on the same sideline during play, in the so-called technical area. This area is also the substitution area. If the technical area is absent, substitutions occur at the halfway line.
Incorrect substitutions are penalized with a warning (yellow card).  

6. Participant List and Team Check-in

The team registrar is responsible for ensuring that all players listed on the participant list are eligible to play for the team.  

6.1  The participant listmust be filled out for each teamon your digital team page (not shared for the whole age group).

All players listed on the team's line-up must be present on the team's participant list at check-in. Once the team has checked into the tournament, no additional persons may be added to the participant list.  

Teams using non-qualified players may be disqualified from the tournament. 

All players name on the line-up must be identical with the names on the participation list handed in at the Check-in before your first game. Players may represent their club in more than one (1) team in the tournament, if it is not in the same age class.

7. Match Details

7.1  The line-up must be submitted digitally via your team page. NOTE: The team's line-up should only show the players participating in the current match (number, name, date of birth). Disregard may result in disqualification or a walkover victory for the opposing team.  

7.2  The listed home team takes the first kick-off.

7.3  All player jerseys must be numbered, and the numbers must match those indicated on the line-up. Two players cannot have the same number on their jerseys in the same team and match. If the match referee decides that one team must change uniforms due to similarity with the other team’s uniforms, the away team must change. If necessary, vests are available at the arena.

7.4   Before the game, all teams must be dressed and ready at their playing field at least 10 minutes before the game begins. Piteå Summer Games recommends that all players present and available at game time should be given playing time. All players must wear shin guards.

Coaches/parents behaving inappropriately during games may be removed from the field/match by the referee or arena officials.  Each team is responsible for the behavior of its own supporters. The supporters' behavior can lead to the team being excluded from the tournament.

All players must be insured.

7.5  Ball Size

8. Dispensations

8.1  Automatic exemption is granted for a maximum of two players per match who are up to one year older than the age class. Social exemptions can be granted; applications are made via the team page with clear justification.

8.2 Girls are allowed to play on boys' teams in all classes, if they are in the correct age class.

8.3  Dispensation applications must be submitted no later than May 30. Applications after May 30 come with an administrative fee of 500 SEK. This only applies to dispensations not covered by 8.1 and 8.2.

NOTE: Dispensation applications submitted after June 10 will not be processed.  

9.   Walk Over/Interrupted Game

9.1  Teams that fail to appear for a match without a valid reason may lose the match 3-0 after a decision by the competition jury. Repeated absences may result in disqualification from the tournament. However, the competition jury may decide to disqualify a team already upon the first offense i f there are special circumstances, such as that a deliberate W.O favors their team or disadvantage another team in the group/class. The team´s results are however counted in the group.

9.2  If a game is interrupted and cannot be completed, the tournament jury will decide if the game shall be replayed or if the result of the game shall be determined or if one of the teams or both teams shall lose the game by 3-0.

10. Referees

5-a-side and 7-a-side games are officiated by senior players of local teams.

District referees and referees from district associations' referee training programs officiate all 11-a-side and 9-a-side matches. The referee training programs utilize a three-referee system.  Those who have feedback regarding the refereeing in 9-a-side and 11-a-side games are welcome to contact the referee coordinators. The tournament's referee coordinators can be reached by phone, and the arena secretariats can provide their contact information.  Contact the tournament jury regarding 5v5 and 7v7. 

11.   The Tournament Jury / Main Competition

The tournament jury is located at Nolia (PiteEnergi Arena). Protests and disciplinary matters are handled by the jury. Their decisions are final and cannot be appealed. Only the team's coach or team leader is allowed in the tournament jury's area.

12. Protests and penalties

12.1  Protests must be submitted in writing by the team coach/manager, along with a fee of 1000 SEK, no later than 60 minutes after the match has finished. The protest needs to be submitted to the "Main Competition" at Nolia (PiteEnergi Arena). The fee will be refunded if the protest is accepted.  

Referee decisions facts connected to the game are by rule 5 in FIFA rules - final. Protests against referee decision cannot lead to any action.

12.2  An expelled player is automatically suspended for one game unless the jury decides to extend the suspension. (Applies to all play-off classes) This suspension is valid even if the upcoming game is in the playoffs.

The team manager is responsible of that this rule is obeyed. Warnings do not accumulate.

OBS!  Severe offenses will be reported to the district FA, or to the relevant national FA.

A player who participates in a game while suspended is considered ineligible, resulting in a 3-0 loss for the team.

13. Fields

All games are played on natural grass or artificial turf.

The Main Competition jury reserves the right to relocate matches to another surface or field in case of poor weather or conditions. If relocation is not possible, matches may be decided by penalty shootouts or by drawing lots. Notifications of any changes will be communicated to the team manager.

14. Game Schedule

The Main Competition jury has the right to modify the match schedule during the tournament, including changes to groups, times, and playing fields. Any changes will be communicated to each team manager.

15. Organizer

Piteå Summer Games is a nonprofit organization organized in collaboration with its member clubs, Piteå IF and Öjeby IF. Additionally, Piteå Summer Games works with Munksund Skuthamn SK, Storfors AIK, Svensby SK, Infjärdens SK, Norrfjärdens IF, and Bölebyns SK.

16. Teams that withdraw or fail to complete the tournament

Teams that withdraw from the tournament after May 30 will incur a penalty fee of 1,000 SEK per team in addition to the registration fee. Teams that do not complete the tournament will be charged a penalty fee of 3,000 SEK. ( This also applies to teams that do not participate in their friendly game on Sunday)

17.  Rules for your accommodation during Piteå Summer Games

All accommodation is rented by Piteå Summer Games for the tournament from landlords such as Piteå Municipality. We expect everyone staying at our accommodation to follow the rules:

Team leaders are responsible for their players in the event of property damage or other misconduct at the accommodation.

It is strictly prohibited to consume alcohol or drugs inside the accommodation and in the surrounding areas (school yard or equivalent).

Smoking is not allowed inside the accommodation.

Quiet hours are from 12:00 AM to 6:00 AM  at all accommodation sites.

All teams/residents must clean their sleeping areas and have them inspected before departure. Teams/residents that do not have their sleeping areas inspected before departure or fail to clean them will be charged a cleaning fee of 3000 SEK.

Violations of these rules will be handled by the competition jury and may result in disqualification from the tournament and removal from the accommodation.  

18. Fair Play & My Game is Green

Piteå Summer Games collaborates with RF-Sisu Norrbotten, applying the criteria set forth in the values of sportsmanship – "Idrotten vill."

Since 2014, we have launched the "My Game is Green" initiative with Wibax to promote a FAIR PLAY spirit both on and off the field.

If you, as a player, leader, supporter, or team, receive a Green Card for demonstrating fair play, you can collect a unique, numbered shirt at the Main Info at PiteEnergi Arena (Nolia). Fair play deserves recognition, and through "My Game is Green," we aim to create a positive atmosphere centered on respect, collaboration, and good chemistry.

The Our Game is Green Award will be presented to a club after the tournament.

We are an IQ-certified event and have received a diversity certification from Piteå Municipality.

19.  Insurance and Force Majeure

Make sure that the players in your team are properly insured, both on and off the field. Piteå Summer Games does not carry any group insurance protecting participants in case of injury, illness, theft or damage of property. Participants from countries that have no medical insurance agreement with Sweden must have personal medical insurance.

Piteå Summer Games is in no way responsible for injury or economic loss which may arise in the event of war, war-like events, civil war, revolution or civil disturbance or because of the action of authorities, strikes, lockout, blockades or similar events.

Bad weather or any other unforeseen event which causes that the tournament cannot be implemented or completed will not result in refund of fees.
